System Requirements
What type of computer hardware do I need?
SELLmatix, will run on an Intel P3 processor running at 800Mhz with 128Mb of RAM. We suggest the equivilent of a a Celeron 1Ghz. The computer must have a network adaptor, even if it is not connected to a network.

Other hardware such as displays, Cash Drawers Receipt Printers and Barcode Scanners depend on the user requirements.

What Operating System is required?
SELLmatix requires Windows 2000 or later. Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP are all OK.

SELLmatix will not run on Windows 95, 98 or ME since these opeating systems do not support Unicode or have adequate security built in. Windows NT is not supported because SELLmatix uses shell extensions not included in NT.

How much Disk Storage do I need?
The smallest commercially available disk drive has many times more storage than you will need for SELLmatix. We suggest a minimum of 128Mb, however SELLmatix could be run on less. SELLmatix can be run from Flash Disks.

Can I run other programs at the same time as SELLmatix?
Yes. The actual CPU processing requirements for SELLmatix are quite low, because SELlmatix is written in the "C" programming language which is very fast and CPU efficient. Any new computer has more than adequate processing power. you should be able to run other applications on the same machine at the same time without difficulty.

Certain anti-virus software which checks every disk read and write may slow switching of displays on SELLmatix POS, since this is disk intensive. If you have a slow processor on a POS machine that is not connected to the internet or protected by a firewall, we suggest turning off this feature of the anti-virus software, or not using anti-virus at all under these circumstances.

In many cases, you may not want the POS operator to run other programs, however, and SELLmatix allows you to configure the POS so that the operator cannot access other features of the computer.

SELLmatix Features
How Many PLU's and Departments are supported?
SELLmatix has been tested with more than 130,000 products without performance degradation. To put this in perspective, an average sized grocery supermarket will typically stock less than 8000 products, and it is not unusual for grocery wholesalers to have a total product range under 25,000.

Most other POS systems have a severely limited ability to store PLU's at the Point of Sale, and extract only the items actually sold from a warehouse catalog file. With SELLmatix, it is easier to store the entire catalog on each POS terminal, as this eliminates the need to extract the actual items stock and reduces the chance ofitems not being found.

SELLmatix supports up to 999 departments.

Does Control Have to be Running to Process Sales?
That depends on the type of business you have.

If you have a typical retail outlet that sells to one customer at a time, then Control does not have to be running to process sales. You can process sales on the POS terminals offline for days if necessary, and when Control is started, it will connect and retrieve transactions.

On the other hand, if you have a restaurant or bar type of business, where customers make several orders which are printed on kitchen or bar printers and the customer pays for all their orders at the end, then SELLmatix Control does need to be running, because Control handles the printing of the orders on the kitchen printers, and consolidates the orders for each "table" into a single account, even if orders have been entered on several different SELLmatix POS and PocketPos terminals.

In a restaurant/bar, if Control went offline briefly (for example if a PocketPos terminal moved out of WiFi radio range), there would be no problem as the connection would be automatically restored. However printing of orders on Kitchen printers would be delayed while the connection was down.

Can I run Control on the same computer that process sales?
Yes.

However, if the SELLmatix POS security settings on that machine prevented the operator from accessing other programs, it would also prevent the user from accessing SELLmatix Control. Control would continue operating in the background, however, printing orders on kitchen printers, consolidation orders for tables etc.

Clerks with adequate premissions would be able to access control by switching to Menu Mode in SELLmatix POS.
